Lightning Fibre has become the latest Full Fibre ISP to launch a multi gig speed residential product announcing a 2.5Gbps symmetric residential broadband package for £99 per month.
Paul Thornton, chief technology officer at Lightning Fibre, said,
“We have changed our ONTs to The Adtran SDX 631 XGS-PON ONT to provide a smaller footprint device which is more power efficient. We have also rolled out new Routers, the Zyxel EX5601, which is 2.5G ready to satisfy subscribers’ bandwidth-intensive needs with optimized bandwidth utilization. Beamforming technologies deliver optimal WiFi experiences and addresses issues with dead zones.”
In recent months other ISP’s have also been launching multi gig products including Openreach with their 1.8Gbps speed (1.6Gbps advertised speed), CityFibre with their 2Gbps speed product and YouFibre with their 2 and 8Gbps products.
Virgin Media are expected to launch at 2Gbps product in the near future (currently being tested).
First TV Ad and Social tarrif
Lightning Fibre scooped the highly coveted ‘Best Consumer ISP (<50k customers)’ ISPA Award on 9th November, and launched its first TV Advert from 15th November, airing on Sky TV, Virgin TV, ITVX and AllFour. The Advert was created by Smokescreen Visuals, also based in Eastbourne, with media buying by AdSmart and Meerkat Works.
The ISPA Award Judges acknowledged that, “In this year’s most competitive category, Lightning Fibre storm to victory with their customer focus and charter, community offering and transparency.”
Rob Reaks, sales and marketing director, commented, “It’s been a big month for us at Lightning Fibre. The ISPA win was fantastic and recognises the focus we put on our customers, who are responding very positively to our new Full Fibre network. Early indications show our web traffic has increased significantly since the TV advert launched, carefully geo-targeted to areas of RFS to maximise our investment.”
Earlier this year, the firm launched a £15 per month 30 day rolling contract for people on means-tested benefits, and has an API feed to the Department of Work and Pensions to enable customers to confirm their eligibility quickly and securely. The firm allows existing customers to switch to the ‘social tariff’ at any time without incurring early termination fees, as part of its Customer Charter to support vulnerable customers.
A Virtual Landline (VoIP) service will launch in January, with a Pay As You Go package for £6 per month plus 10p per minute, or an inclusive package (UK Landlines and mobiles) for £14 per month.
