More premises in Shropshire are set to get ultrafast Full Fibre broadband after the UK governments Project Gigabit announced Openreach had been awarded contracts to build FTTP.

Covering areas with little to no ultrafast broadband options.

The latest announcement from UK Government and Openreach confirm that Openreach have been awarded four additional Type C contracts under the Project Gigabit scheme.

This includes 47,000 premises in East and South Shropshire, North Herefordshire, North Wales, and South West Wales.

It also includes:

-37,000 premises in Mid Devon, North Somerset and South Devon.

-24,000 Premises in Essex and North East England

-22,000 premises in Worcestershire.

The Type C contracts aim to cover areas that have no FTTP built to them and no other plans to have FTTP due to lack of investment by other companies.

Areas are usually rural and deemed not economically viable to build FTTP commercially therefore Government investment is needed.

In terms of the areas covered in Shropshire by this latest announcement mainly cover parts of East and South Shropshire these can be seen by the orange dots in the below image:

Good things come to those who wait

While people in these areas have had to wait a long time to get FTTP ultrafast broadband the good news is the wait will be worth it as not only will the areas get Openreach’s robust FTTP service and a choice of 100’s of ISPs they will also potentially be the first to get Openreach’s Symmetric 1Gbps service
It is worth registering your interest with Openreach where they will keep you updated on progress and let you know when the FTTP is live!

You can of course also use our checker to see what FTTP services you have live or planned at your address.

This latest announcement adds to the growing investment in broadband in Shropshire which has already seen good progress in FTTP and other Ultrafast Broadband over the past few years you can read more about that on our Shropshire Full Fibre Website.
